Walt Disney's Donald Duck in Trick of Treat (Gladstone Comic Album Series No. 23):
This album contains the timeless story of the witch Hazel and Halloween in Duckburg titled Donald Duck in Trick or Treat, originally published in Walt Disney's Donald Duck #26 (1952). "Halloween is the night when witches fly," Barks writes and right in this moment a witch passes an eerie landscape marked by gravestones and a small New England town with its traditional church with steeple in the center. This comic was based on a cartoon and masterfully transferred to a comic book. Tim Janson from Michigan reviews the comic on the Amazon website, writing: "This Halloween story was always one of my favorites." Get yourself a copy of this masterpiece for only $5.95 (ships usually within 24 hours) Also click on the cover to get a look inside this great comic!

Walt Disney's Donald Duck in A Christmas for Shacktown (Gladstone Comic Album Series No. 25) (Paperback)
Love is at the heart of Christmas but all too often it is forgotten. Many people and of course many innocent children have not even enough to eat, not to even speak of anything for Christmas. Carl Barks, who often felt the need to write stories about important issues, drew "A Christmas for Shacktown" at a time when many children and adults in America could not afford much. If you haven't read: "A Christmas for Shacktown" (January 1952, OS 367), you can get a nice copy from Amazon.com for only $5.95.

Uncle Scrooge Vs. Flintheart Glomgold : The Second Richest Duck (Gladstone Giant Album Comic Series, No. 4) (Gladstone Giant Comic Album Ser. : No. 4): This excellent comic album from Gladstone contains the following masterpieces:

Uncle Scrooge in "So Far and No Safari" written and drawn by Carl Barks, first published in US#61, 1965.
Uncle Scrooge in "The Son of the Sun" written and drawn by Don Rosa, first published in US#219, 1987.
The first story is one of the most memorable of all of Barks' Uncle Scrooge tales. It establishes his race to become the richtest duck, or man, on earth. The book is for sale for only
$11.95.

Walt Disney's Uncle Scrooge & Donald Duck: The Sunken City (Gladstone Giant Comic Album Series, No. 2): This comic book album includes the great classic "The Sunken City" which has inspired many other artists. It is one of Barks' great adventure tales that let you dream of different worlds. It is as great as some of the best Hollywood adventure movies of the past and it is even more funny than most. The second story is titled "Luck of the North" and it takes the reader to the place where Uncle Scrooge made his first money. This story is an example where Barks uses the idea of the American Dream to give his stories a deeper meaning: The ideal versus the reality are an ever present example in his tales. The phantastic and exaggerated nature of Scrooge's past make it an unlikely experience and when we consider that Uncle Scrooge never got happy but is always afraid of someone trying to steal his money it must be seen as the dark side of American idealism and naivite. This book sells for an amazing $8.95.

Walt Disney's Donald Duck: The Terror of the River (Gladstone Comic Album Series, No. 2):
5 out of 5 starsGOOD CLASSIC DONALD DUCK STORIES !, July 9, 2002

Reviewer: Kathrine Howard (see more about me) from Day in Modoc County, California
This is a good Donald Duck comic album. It's first and main story is called the Terror of the River and is about Donald and his nephews trying to fend off a pursuing "Sea Serpent" from their house boat in the Mississippi River. I thought this was a very good story. The second story is about Donald's misadventures trying to train seals when him and his nephews have a day at the beach. And the third and comical story is about Donald Duck being a camp counselor for the Junior Wood Chucks trying to show his "bravery and heroism."
Buy it now for only $5.95, ships within 9-11 days.

Cover

There are atogether 80 fun filled pages with great coloring. This comic book will be delighting both to young and old, for those who like to remember the old days and for those who want to enjoy Barks vivid style. One thing is certain: these comics are never childish and can be enjoyed by everyone. It comes along with a great cover which is an excerpt of one of Carl Barks' oil paintings. cover
Walt Disney's Uncle Scrooge: A Cold Bargain (Gladstone Comic Album Series, No. 24):
This comic includes two long Uncle Scrooge stories with a one page short at the end and another one page short in the middle. In the first story, "A Cold Bargain" (US#17), Uncle Scrooge purchases the world's only supply of bombastium at an auction. While his scientists search for a use for the substance, Scrooge and his nephews rush off to Antarctica to put the Bombastium in guaranteed safe keeping, since the substance will evaporate if not constantly kept frozen. While on their journey, Scrooge and his nephews are pursued by sinister agents from the country of Brutopia, who want the Bombastium too. This epic tale of the mysterious susbtance and the darker side of mankind is one of Barks recurrent themes. This story belongs to Barks most excellent tales and you will certainly never forget it! The second story is about Scrooge and his nephews trying to get a large payment of gold back from Bantu while trying to avoid the pursuing Beagle Boys. This comic album sells for $5.95 and usually ships within 24 hours.

Cover
Walt Disney's Uncle Scrooge: The Mines of King Solomon (Gladstone Comic Album Series No. 1):
The mines of King Solomon contains yet another of Bark's great adventure tales. As always this is great fun for old and young and will take you to distant places. Of course Uncle Scrooge wants to make big money again on his hunt for the mines. For this he buys tickets to take Donald, Huey, Dewey, and Louie to 1200 places in 69 countries with 16 crossings of the 7 seas. This comic was first published in Uuncle Scrooge # 19 (1957). 48 pages of fun for only $5.95. This book ships within 24 hours.

cover
Walt Disney's Donald Duck and the Junior Woodchucks (Gladstone Comic Album Series, No. 18)
Although the cover is not drawn by Carl Barks, this comic album contains a number of Carl Barks junior woodchucks tales. These comics are part of the master's late stories and usually are around 8 pages and deal with the problem of environmental destruction (as also do some of his greatest long tales and some of the Donald Duck stories). Sometimes Hewey, Dewey and Louis Duck, members of Junior Woodchucks, have to face their own uncle Scrooge McDuck, whose priority is making money, which often runs counter to protecting the environment. This topic ist still as current as it ever was. This comic book album sells for only $5.95 and ships within 24 hours.

Walt Disney's Comics in Color, Vol. 4: This comic book brings you high quality Barks stories under a great Don Rosa cover (see left). This comic book is available for $19.95 from amazon.com. This edition ships within 24 hours. Chris from illinois writes: "This is a nice, thick chunk of reprinted comics from the heyday of the Dell Walt Disney duck comics by Carl Barks. The book actually collects into a single volume four of the smaller out-of-print Gladstone Comic Album series, the same series that you can still find ... although the issues reprinted here are not--to my knowledge--offered individually on this site. In this volume you will find some classic Carl Barks stories featuring Donald Duck and Uncle Scrooge including "The Land Beneath the Ground," "Sheriff of Bullet Valley," "Only a Poor Old Man (which I have heard referred to as 'Money Lake'," as well as many short Donald Duck stories know collectively as the "Mastery" stories. All of the major works are by Barks and, unless I am mistaken, all but one of the shorter stories is by Barks as well." Also take a look at Walt Disney's Comics in Color, Vol. 6. It is available for $19.95 from amazon.com. Also check for a great way to combine both comic books to save money!

Walt Disney Presents Uncle Scrooge : Back to the Klondike (Gladstone Comic Album Series No. 4): This comic book is available at amazon.com for only $5.95! It is a must have for any serious Barks fan and for all of you who want to become one. This comic book is about Uncle Scrooge's past and his one and only girl friend. Believe it or not he had one, sort of! Naturally this splendid story is also about gold and Scrooge's love to money.

This comic album usually ships within 24 hours. To buy, click on the cover on the left.

Walt Disney's Donald Duck Adventures Voodoo Hoodoo (Gladstone Comic Album Series No. 16): This comic book includes one of my favorite stories. It should be in any serious collection of Barks comics. It is sold for $5.95 and shipped within 24 hours.

Walt Disney's Donald Duck Finds Pirate Gold (Gladstone Giant, Comic Album Special 1): Carl Barks very first Donald Duck adventure story was not done all by himself but it still a very fascinating story. It is still more like an animated movie and thus includes far more images for the action. A must for all Barks fans. This comic book is available from amazon.com for only $8.95 and is shipped within 24 hours.

Walt Disney's Uncle Scrooge in Land Beneath the Ground (Gladstone Comic Album Series No. 6):
Have you ever wondered how earthquakes come about? This story features a very unusual and witty explanation for this phenomenon. It is one of Barks' most fantastic tales as it explores the underworld and its creatures. The whole story can also be read as a metaphor on life itself, which is a common feature of all Barks stories. This comic book should certainly be in everyone's collection. Also interesting to Duck Tales fans as it is the basis of one of the TV show's episodes. Buy it now for only $5.95 and ships within 9 to 11 days.

excerpt
Walt Disney's Uncle Scrooge: The Golden Fleecing (Gladstone Comic Album Series No. 19): Uncle Scrooge (see left) wants a golden jacket and follows strange men to Colchis, the Mythical Land of the Golden Fleece. This story is a mysterious adventure that is sure to give you goose-bumps but also will make you laugh! Uncle Scrooge's hunger for a new status symbol that will show everyone his wealth gets him into trouble, again. It's up to Donald Duck and his nephews to save the old miser from a bewitched place. This is truly one of Barks' very best, a gothic adventure that you will never forget! This comic book album sells for only $5.95 and ships within 24 hours.

Walt Disney's Uncle Scrooge in the Many Faces of Magica De Spell (Comic Album #6)
It is amazing what some magic can do! With this potion the witch is able to make everyone look like the person they look at first. This is a marvelous Barks story that has received very little attention. I do not yet have a good copy of this great story but I can only recommend it to any serious Carl Barks fan as I also want to buy a copy very soon. It is available from amazon.com for only $12.95 and usually ships within 24 hours. Also check for possible used copies.

Bugs Bunny and Friends - A Comic Celebration:
This magnificent comic book features 158 high quality pages, unfortunately out of print. However, you perhaps can still find used copies in Amazon's Z-shops. It's most important part, Carl Barks' only Bugs Bunny and Porky Pig story "Porky of the Mounties", consists of some of Barks' finest work and that for 24 pages. There is also one other Disney artist in it: Tony Strobl with a very funny story called "The Traveling Tree". Don't miss this comic book - without it your Carl Barks collection is not complete!

Carl Barks - Conversations by  Donald Ault:
This insightful collection of interviews gives the reader a great view at the master and his art. How did he conceive of his stories and how were they brought to light? What gave him inspiration despite the meagre reward? These interviews were made after the good artist was discovered and they were published before in numerous fan magazines. This book also marks another step in the academic analysis of an important cultural aspect of American pop art of the war years and the post war era. This book is a must own for any Barks fan. I can only recommend it to anyone who wants to know more and also get some behind-the-scenes information. This book comes at a discount price of only $13.60 (originally priced at $ 20!).
Carl Barks And the Disney Comic Book: Unmasking the Myth of Modernity by Thomas Andrae
For over twenty-five years, Disney artist Carl Barks (1901–2000) created some of the most brilliant and funny stories in comic books. Gifted and prolific, he was the author of over 500 tales in the most popular comic books of all time. Although he was never allowed to sign his name and worked in anonymity, Barks’s unique artistic style and storytelling were immediately evident to all his readers. Barks created the town of Duckburg, and a cast of characters that included Donald Duck’s fabulously wealthy Uncle Scrooge, the lucky loafer Gladstone Gander, the daffy inventor Gyro Gearloose, the rougish crooks the Beagle Boys, and the Italian sorceress Magica de Spell.

Carl Barks and the Disney Comic Book: Unmasking the Myth of Modernity is the first critical study of Barks’s work in English. From a cultural studies perspective, the author analyzes all phases of Barks’s career from his work in animation to his post-retirement years writing the Junior Woodchucks stories.

Andrae argues that Barks’s oeuvre presents a vision strikingly different from the Disney ethos. Barks’s central theme is a critique of modernity. His tales offer a mordant satire of Western imperialism and America’s obsession with wealth, success, consumerism, and technological mastery, offering one of the few communal, ecological visions in popular culture. Although a talented visual artist, Barks was also one of America’s greatest storytellers and, Andrae contends, lifted the comic book form to the level of great literature.
